For 2024, the Missouri Craft Brewers Guild is brewing "Missouri Strong" - a series of four strong ale styles for this year's collaboration beer project "Missouri Loves Company®." Brewers from across the Show-Me State come together quarterly to brew a beer together. The four host breweries collaborated early this year on which strong ale style they want to brew. Then all the participating breweries are invited to collaborate via video conference to dial in the recipe for the beer.
Our third brew day took place in July at Side Project Brewing in Maplewood, a neighborhood in St. Louis. This time around, the talented team brewed a Barleywine Style Ale. Barleywine is a dark, malty beer with a complex flavor profile that's often strong and intense. Use of the word "wine" is due to its alcoholic strength similar to a wine, but since it is made from grain rather than fruit, it is a beer.
This 10% ABV brew uses Helios and Delta hops from Hopsteiner. The malt bill features Pale Ale malt supplied by Malteurop Malting Company. We used the Heritage English Ale yeast from Pinnacle Brewers Yeast. We hope you love drinking it as much as we loved brewing it.
